Established in 1974, The Museum of Natural History, which is property of Shiraz University, aims to raise the level of public knowledge about the world of creation and the existential value of animals, plants, minerals and fossils in human life and the natural environment.
Museum sections include zoology, stamp-coin-anthropology, geology, taxidermy, botany, technology, anatomy and art. The museum complex, with more than 2,500 specimen of invertebrates and vertebrates, 60 species of medicinal plants, 70 million-year-old fish fossils and a variety of minerals, is an ideal destination for those interested in natural history and technology.
Due to its various resources, this museum serves as a scientific center primarily for education and research in the country, as well as a reference and hands-on experience for those interested in natural sciences, local scientists and scholars.
In a Nutshell
The Museum of Natural History and Technology of Shiraz University was founded in March 1974. This treasure, which is built on a ten-hectare land, includes zoology, entomology, botany, anatomy, geology, anthropology, stamps and banknotes, science, and technology museums. It is the first museum in Iran that has a queuing system which has been operating since October 2011. This museum hosts many domestic and foreign tourists every year.
